Donate Karma Points for Charity

Saturday, January 16th, 2010 at 8:56 pm - by Cassie.

A friend recommended this app today (and it’s FREE) and thought I would pass it along. You can download it for the iPhone or Android. Go to Cause World to download it. I have nothing to do with this app not do I get anything if you download it, just found it while looking through the app store.

You just “check-in” when you go to stores or restaurants, and earn “karma” points. Then you can donate those karma points to help causes that they have set up, such as: Haiti relief, provide a meal, prevent child abuse, plant a tree, donate a book etc. They have about 10 causes set up already and you can also suggest a cause. It is sponsored by Citi and kraft foods.

What a great way to make a difference even if you can’t afford to send $ directly to these organizations.

LOS ANGELES – Barred from using lead in children’s jewelry because of its toxicity, some Chinese manufacturers have been substituting the more dangerous heavy metal cadmium in sparkling charm bracelets and shiny pendants being sold throughout the United States, an Associated Press investigation shows.

The most contaminated piece analyzed in lab testing performed for the AP contained a startling 91 percent cadmium by weight. The cadmium content of other contaminated trinkets, all purchased at national and regional chains or franchises, tested at 89 percent, 86 percent and 84 percent by weight. The testing also showed that some items easily shed the heavy metal, raising additional concerns about the levels of exposure to children.

Cadmium is a known carcinogen. Like lead, it can hinder brain development in the very young, according to recent research.

How incredibly scary! Click here to read the full story.

Two deaths are possible in ground beef recall.

ASHVILLE, N.Y. – Contaminated fresh ground beef caused a possible E. coli outbreak that killed two people and sent 16 others to hospitals, federal health officials said Monday.

Twenty-eight people may have become ill after eating beef produced by Fairbank Farms of Ashville, N.Y., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. Target Flashlights Recalled Due to Burn Hazard

Friday, October 30th, 2009 at 8:25 pm - by Cassie.

The below is courtesy of ModernMom.com

“If you bought a Halloween flashlight at Target you could be in for a trick, not a treat.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Target are recalling two types of Halloween-themed flashlights – a mini flashlight and flashlights that were sold with stencils as the flashlights can overheat and melt leading to potential burns.

The description is as follows:

Mini Flashlights- The mini flashlights have a key ring extending from the bottom and were sold in a pack of three colors: orange, green and black. The orange and purple packaging has “Mini Flashlights (3 Pack)” printed on the front and “DGI”, “Made in China” and “DPCI# 234-02-1813″ printed on the back.

Standard Size Flashlights- Also included in the recall are standard sized flashlights with a black handle and an orange top. The flashlights were sold with six stencils in various colors and images: a pumpkin, ghost, spider, cat, witch and skull & cross-bones. “Flashlight with Stencil” is printed on the front and “Tien Hsing,” “Made in China” and “234 02 1838″ is printed on the back of the packaging.

These products were sold exclusively at Target nationwide from August 2009 through September 2009 for $1 for the mini flashlights and $2.50 for the flashlights with stencils.

Please stop using the flashlight and return it to Target for a full refund.”07f02543-7ba9-450f-b038-a1e70fb204f4.Largeb0762378-fd7d-4cda-9f44-1276cdd5bf78.Large
